The Bodyguard

A classic viewing of all the Theatreland play houses by night. The authentic commentary, by Ben Shafik - a player himself - gives an authentic feel to the West End's theatres - and is backed by real music.
Next version will be more upbeat as, suggested, to celebrate Britannia's unbeatable heritage.
(Over 6000 viewings and all good reviews to date).

A note from the author

I took these pictures to show off London theatres as they are seen -most often - by theatre goers, at night.

Thanks to Ben Shafik for his lighthearted and informative commentary and Fionn O'Lochlainn for the original music.

Watch out for the new version with current liveries and the names of the theatres as they appear.

The Bodyguard - Heather HadleyThe film which starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, echoes in London's west end Theatreland into the Spring stars Heather Headley and Lloyd Owen.

This is another musical play which veers towards romance rather than comedy. It is a variety of romance that will appeal to both men - however I may say especially women. When a man is being reluctant to dishonour his position of professional protector - how much more attractive is he to women?  Rather than spoiling the simple plot I can say it's worth going along - not so much because of what happens than 'how' it happens.

The Bodyguard - Heather singingIn addition the songs that weave through the story are all pretty famous massive hits. Whitney Houston herself was scandalously different and sang like a dream into the bargain. You could say she is a hard part to play let alone sing - however the original Great Stars do leave an imprint of high aspiration to go for - and Heather does it very well. Juke box musicals that show off the best of their progenitors tend to raise the standards all round.

The singers certainly give it some energetic singing in lively performances. The theatregoers have continued to go and see this show which has now extended its booking and that can only be for one reason - it's good to hear the familiar songs live. The music in live performances can get closer to you than at as high a volume as you dare - in your room.

The Bodyguard - On the job

The Bodyguard - LloydA bodyguard with apparently good credentials (EX secret service) is hired as a bodyguard to a singing star who had a stalker - was Whitney Houston in the film. She was originally challenging in spoilt-brat mode - even rude.  They both thought they were number one in the job of calling the shots. A bit like the health and safety police who have attitude in the same way.  The tables turn between the pair - will they become a couple?
