A note from the author

We put this AVMovie together (a compilation of still photos and video clips) to show off London theatres as they are seen most often by theatre goers – by night.

Thanks to Ben Shafik for his lighthearted and informative commentary and Fionn O'Lochlainn for the original music.

Watchout for the new version with current liveries and the names of the theatres as they appear.

Alan Ayckbourn - a playwright of note - wrote Bedroom Farce which received a Burns Mantle award in 1979. It is a comedy about the way couples interact with each other through a series of problems that they discuss and act out with each other and everybody else concerned.

It was very well received and looked at the meaning underlying the problems in both young couples and the parents of  one character. The attitudes of the different generations are also highlighted with some hilarity. At the time of writing it was about suburban marriages and now we see these scenarios and problems more widely spread. The all-star cast play brilliantly in all the bedrooms - well three of them - there are four couples to get to know.

Trevor and Susannah have problems in their relationship. Somehow they find themselves in the bedrooms of other couples - their friends - and one problem leads to another - as they do. Throughout the play there are many moments depicting both carelessness and tenderness - then forgiveness follows on after truth about the lying and cheating is revealed. The play has a backbone of a clever plot and an engrossing use of time. The cast  make the story as relevant to today as it was in the seventies - especially the older couple..
